SMU Challenge

Our History

With humble beginnings in 2008,  SMU Challenge has grown from a student-managed project into an iconic university-wide initiative. SMU Challenge helps to highlight and raise funds for the local special needs community, in partnership with Central Singapore Community Development Council, in support of The Purple Parade -- A movement that calls to mind the celebration of the abilities of persons with special needs.

This initiative was started by a compassionate group of students who truly cared for the society. Over the years, SMU Challenge stayed true to its core, which is to be a platform for the SMU community (Students, Staff, Faculty and Alumni alike) to interact with one another while giving back to society.

Annually, SMU Challenge conducts a series of weekly outings with our beneficiaries, also known as Purple Outing. These outings aim to help add valuable skills and meaningful interaction between the volunteers and beneficiaries. In lieu of COVID-19, this year's purple outings will be held virtually.

These Purple Outings will culminate into a grand SMU Challenge finale. This year's edition is known as the SMOO Challenge, a virtual run event which will be organised on an international scale. Together as a community, we hope to achieve a combined 20,000km in 20 days, to celebrate SMU's 20th anniversary in order to raised funds in support of the SMU Bursary Fund.

So, invite your family and friends to sign up for SMOO Challenge, to do good and keep fit at the same time! Registration starts on the 1st of July!

See you there,
